Barr Camp


Barr Camp is a little haven in the woods. This rustic cabin and other shelters provide a wonderful place to stay for a while and enjoy Pike National Forest. There is no electricity here and no running water. The care-takers live here year round providing wonderful hospitality to many weary travelers. If you would like to stay at Barr Camp you should make reservations in advance at their website.

Primitive restroom facilities are available at Barr Camp. This is your last chance for such an opportunity until the summit.

If you find yourself in need of anything they do sell several items inside the main cabin. You can also rent their water filter to top off your water bottles if you think you'll be running short. Bring cash though as that is all they accept in the store. Prices are a little steep, but it takes a lot of effort to get supplies to this camp.

From Barr Camp there are several trails to various destinations on Pikes Peak. A person could easily spend a week at Barr Camp doing day hikes visiting the many trails. However if the summit of Pikes Peak is your destination you still have a lot of work left to do. Many people choose to stay at Barr Camp as an early start from here will get you to the summit and back down before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in.

When you do finally manage to break yourself away from this forest paradise and back on the Barr Trail don't forget to stop and refill at the creek. This will be your last opportunity to do so until the summit.
